Attendance

Absences & Attendance

Regular school attendance is essential for a student to make the most of his or her education. Benefits are the interactive school assignments, building each day's learning on the previous day's, and growing as an individual. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student's mastery of the instructional materials; therefore, the student and parent should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences.

Mrs. Fukuda should be notified by telephone at 735-0912 the morning of the student's absence. When returning to school, please submit a note with the following information:

  • Student's name
  • Teacher's name
  • Reason for the absence
  • Parent's signature
  • Date of absence

Compulsory Attendance

State law requires that a student between the ages of six and 18 attend school, as well as any applicable accelerated instruction program, extended year program, or tutorial session, unless the student is otherwise excused from attendance or legally exempt. Students enrolled in pre-kindergarten or kindergarten are required to attend school.

State law mandates that students must be in attendance ninety percent of the days the class is in session. A student not in attendance the specified number of days because of excused or unexcused reasons is subject to retention. Parents will be notified by letter after five absences and again at eight absences. The Campus Attendance Committee and truancy officer will review any excessive absences.
